*he'd only been home a half hour, much later than Nathan's bedtime (he can't help frowning for having missed tucking Nathan into bed again)* *he was exhausted, but He didn't think he'd be able to actually fall asleep for a few hours still; his mind is racing with all the work that's been piled on his desk and everything he needs to address about, well,
everything, not to mention that he needs to practise his wandless magic for Saturday*
*he settles on the floor, back resting against the sofa, one leg bent with the other stretched in front of him* *over and over he summons one of Nathan's foam balls to him, then tosses it back across the room only to summon it again* *at first, it's difficult, but it becomes easier each time he tries it*
*when he catches the yellow foam ball this time, he's greeted with happy giggles; Nathan's crouched at the living room entrance -- clad in dragon pjs with little feet -- watching him with his hand covering his mouth to try and stifle his giggles*
*grins* Hey, little man. What're you doing up? Grandmum'll be very cross with daddy if you don't get back to sleep, mate. *Nathan waddles over and climbs into his lap, and cheerfully pips up that it's time to play* *he knows that he should pick him up and bring him back to bed, but he'd not seen him all day, and alone time like this was so rare* Alright. We can play for a little bit, but then it's time for sleep.
Want to help daddy practise catching the ball? *when Nathan nods his head vigorously, Roger shifts him on his lap so Nathan's resting back against his chest* *tosses the ball across the room* Catch the ball, Nathan. *summons the ball, careful to control the speed so it's not too fast* *Nathan giggles happily when he catches the ball and throws the ball with an eager, "
Again!"* *soft laugh* Okay, okay.
*they play catch a few more times when Nathan asks Roger if he can try ("
Me, now!")* *tosses the ball across the room* Alright, little man; it's your turn.
*before he can even get ready to catch the ball, Nathan waves his arms enthusiastically* *unfortunately, the ball isn't summoned; instead all of Nathan's toys fly up to the ceiling, sticking there* *looks up and deadpans* Huh. *pulls Nathan into a hug* We'll keep working on that. *ruffles his hair* For now, it's time for bed.
*gets up and hauls Nathan onto his shoulders for a piggy back ride, and smiles when Nathan asks for a bedtime story*
